In 2023 Adidas 3SSB Basketball Tournaments took place at Legends Event Center. Now, they are back for their second year. On April 18-20, 2024 the Girls Tournament was held at Legends Event Center with over 180 teams and on May 17-19 the Boys Tournament will be held with over 290 teams. Both tournaments are set to make a significant impact on local businesses in the area. With 470 teams participating from across the country, the tournaments are expected to bring a surge in visitors to Bryan.
3Stripes Select Basketball (3SSB) is a premiere platform that houses elite basketball events for high school athletes seeking to play at the collegiate level. Through 3SSB’s exclusive Adidas circuit, teams from across the nation compete against each other in multiple NCAA certified live period games allowing the athletes to showcase their skill sets in front of hundreds of D1 coaches, media, and scouts.
3SSB selected Legends Event Center in 2023 (Legends Event Center’s first year of operation) to house their annual tournaments which bring more than 9,500 attendees to both the boys and girls tournaments after Destination Bryan and Legends Event Center worked to promote the assets that Legends Event Center offers to tournaments. By being chosen as the annual facility to house this tournament series in the first year of operation, the tournaments testify to Legends Event Center’s facility quality and the partnership the City of Bryan has with SFC Sports Facilities Companies that manage Legends Event Center.
Both tournaments bring in thousands of visitors to Bryan. The girls tournament brought in over 3,900 visitors and the boys tournament is expected to bring more than 6,000 visitors. While in Bryan for the tournament, these visitors have a significant impact on the local businesses.
“We are so fortunate to be so close to Legends Event Center,” said Barry Ivins, owner of Carney’s Pub & Gill. “Our business has seen exceptional growth the past year from guests stopping in before and after its events at Legends Event Center.”
Overall, the Adidas 3SSB Tournaments are set to have a positive impact on local businesses. From increased revenue to enhanced visibility and community engagement, the tournament presents an opportunity for participants to experience local businesses and bring positive impact to the local economy.
Businesses outside of Midtown have also seen positive impacts. Wade Beckman, owner of Shipwreck Grill and 3rd on Main Kitchen, said “Activity at Legends Event Center, including sports tournaments like Adidas 3SSB, have had a profound positive impact on both of my restaurants in Bryan. We have seen a solid morning breakfast/brunch impact at 3rd on Main Kitchen in Downtown Bryan and both an afternoon and evening positive impact at Shipwreck Grill when events are being hosted. There is no doubt that the new Event Center is having a very positive impact on the overall economy in Bryan.”
When Legends Event Center brings in tournaments like the Adidas 3SSB tournaments the Bryan community can expect significant economic impact. The girls tournament brought in nearly $2 million while the boys tournament is expected to bring in an estimated $3 million in economic impact.
“Over the past year, events have had a huge impact for our food truck and restaurant, The Station on 29th. It’s great when we have out of town visitors saying they were looking for us being at the Adidas Elite Tournament again this year. [During the girls tournament] we had record sales because of the basketball teams that visited,” said Rich Womak, the owner of Big Dawg BBQ and The Station on 29th.
As Legends Event Center continues to bring in elite sporting tournaments, such as the Adidas 3SSB tournaments, Bryan can continue to see positive community impacts, such as growth of visitors to local restaurants and shops. Legends Event Center is excited to bring these Adidas 3SSB events back to Bryan for future years to come.
