Blinn Dean Michelle Trubenstein named state Healthcare Workforce Task Force advisory member

Michelle Trubenstein, Blinn College District Dean of Health Sciences, has been named an advisory member of the inaugural Healthcare Workforce Task Force announced Friday by Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

The task force will address healthcare workforce shortages in Texas to meet the demands of our growing state and provide students with the skills they need to succeed.

Earlier this year, Abbott sent a letter to THECB directing it to create a task force to address healthcare workforce shortages in Texas. The task force is comprised of knowledgeable experts and leaders representative of the various needs across Texas. Additionally, over 60 subject matter experts were selected from submitted nominations to participate as advisory members in substantive workgroups.

As Dean of Health Sciences, Trubenstein oversees Blinn’s Associate Degree Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Science, Health Information Technology, Health Sciences-Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, and Vocational Nursing programs. Between her experience at Howard College and Blinn, she has 25 years of higher education experience, including the past 15 as a dean. She also has experience as a respiratory therapist.

“With her professional background and expertise in healthcare education, Dean Trubenstein is uniquely positioned to advise the task force and provide students across the State of Texas the tools they need to prepare for careers as skilled and compassionate professionals,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District.

The Healthcare Workforce Task Force and advisory members will meet monthly and gather insights from state agency experts and additional healthcare stakeholders throughout Texas. The task force will issue a final report on Oct. 1, 2024.
