Bryan kicks off a busy summer with its second-ever Adidas Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Bryan Legends Event Center will host its second-ever Adidas 3 Stripes Select Basketball (3SSB) Boys Basketball tournament.

The tournament will be from 8 a.m. May 17th to May 19th and the community is expecting lots of economic benefits. As college students leave for the summer and people head out of town for vacation, events like the high school boys’ tournament will kickstart an event-filled summer that will bring foot traffic to local community businesses.

“We are utilizing just about every court that’s available for them to be able to host an event like this,” said Jamie Cox, General Manager of Legends Events Center. “This is a large economic impact, not just for Legends and the City of Bryan, but for the entire Brazos community.”

Cox said that this event is the second year in a row that the Legends Event Center was chosen for the boys and girls Adidas 3SSB tournaments, and they hope to continue hosting them in the future.

In addition to parents and players, college scouts and coaches will also be attending the tournament, said Cox. They expect to welcome around 6 thousand visitors.

“With each one of those individuals coming into the community, they’re spending money in our hotels and our restaurants and retail, gas stations and anything and everything in between,” said John Friebele, Executive Director of Destination Bryan. “And so, for us, it gives us an opportunity to highlight Bryan and the surrounding area as well as create impact so that our residents are feeling that within their own wallets.”

Event organizers expect the tournament to bring around $3 million to the surrounding community, according to Destination Bryan. They hope visitors can use their time here to experience the community and all the fun it has to offer.

“We hope that they get out and experience what Bryan has to offer,” said Friebele. “One of the reasons we’ve worked so hard at bringing some of these events in is to be able to showcase the community… Whether they’re at Lake Walk or Downtown Bryan or anywhere in between, there’s an experience to be had.”

Cox said that he is most excited to see how the event positively impacts Brazos County and to watch the future stars of basketball playing in the community courts.

“Every day there’s going to be top-level future stars playing on these courts,” said Cox. “So if you’re a basketball fan, if you want to watch a future A&M star or future SEC player, maybe an NBA player, this is the place to be this weekend.”

Tickets will be sold at the door of Legends Event Center starting on Friday, May 17th. Tickets will be $20 for daily admissions and $60 for admission to all tournament events all weekend.
