Country music legend breaks record for biggest crowd at ticketed show in US

Country music legend George Strait has broken the record for the largest crowd ever at a ticketed show in the U.S., according to Billboard.

The “Amarillo By Morning” singer drew an audience of 110,905 ticket-buying fans to his concert at Kyle Field on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas Saturday, June 15.

Strait broke the previous record, which was held by the Grateful Dead, Billboard reported. The rock band had 107,019 fans attend their 1977 show at Raceway Park in New Jersey.

As the stage setup allowed for a large number of fans on the field, Strait’s concert crowd was also more than the stadium’s capacity, which is listed at 102,733 according to A&M’s website.

The show set a new record for Kyle Field for a single event, with the previously most-attended event at the stadium being 110,633 for a Texas A&M game against Ole Miss on Oct. 11, 2014, the website states.

“Take us back to Texas! George set an amazing record at #KyleField this Saturday with 110,905 fans — the biggest single ticketed concert in U.S. history,” a post on the singer’s X account reads.

Strait is no stranger to the record books. The Texas native has 60 No. 1 hits in his career, the most by any artist in any genre, and is the only artist to chart a top 10 hit every year for 30 years, according to the website udiscovermusic.

The Grammy-winning Country Music Hall of Famer’s long list of popular songs includes “I Cross My Heart,” “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” “Amarillo by Morning,” “It Just Comes Natural,” “If You Ain’t Lovin’ (You Ain’t Livin’)” and “Check Yes or No.”

Strait previously went on a farewell tour, “The Cowboy Rides Away Tour,” in 2013, but has continued performing in his golden years. His upcoming concerts include shows at stadiums in Salt Lake City, Detroit, Chicago and Las Vegas.
